Kailash Mansarovar will now be reachable directly from Uttarakhand, this will be a new route

The strategic Ghatbagad-Lipulekh road connecting the China border will be paved in two years. Due to the widening and hot mix of this road, people of local villages and security forces personnel will not only get better transportation facilities, but Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will also become easier.

Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Parliament on Tuesday that after the road is built by December 2023, Kailash Mansarovar will be easily reachable. Devotees will not have to go to Kailash Mansarovar via Nepal or China. People will be able to go on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by road directly from Pithoragarh. For this, the road is being improved.

Considering the strategic importance, the construction of the road from Garbadhar to Lipulekh was started in the year 2006. Then the target was set to complete the work of this road by the year 2012, but due to the odd geographical conditions, the road could not be cut on time. Modern machines were brought there by helicopter to cut extremely hard rocks at Malpa and other places.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh did the virtual inauguration of the road on May 8, 2020

After long efforts of BRO, the cutting work of this 95 km long Ghattabagad-Lipulekh road connecting China border was completed in June 2020. After the completion of the cutting, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh did a virtual inauguration of this road on 8 May 2020. After this, along with BRO, army vehicles also operated on this road. After the construction of the road, tourists also went to Gunji and Adi Kailash by vehicles, but due to the narrow road ahead of Chilekh, they are facing a lot of difficulties in operating the vehicle. In view of this, after the completion of the cutting till Lipulekh, BRO is engaged in the work of widening the road. Along with this, hot mix is also being done where the width of the road is reasonable.

Movement closed so that there is no hindrance in the work

65 RCC and 67 RCC of BRO are engaged in road widening work. The BRO has stopped the movement of common people so that road widening and hot mix work is not hindered. The movement of local people and army vehicles has been allowed only from Sunday morning till 11 am on Monday in a week.

Weather also becomes a hindrance in construction work

The difficult geographical conditions, as well as the weather, were a major factor in the construction of the Lipulekh road connecting the China border taking 14 years. Snowfall continues for more than six months in the higher Himalayan region. Due to the temperature falling below minus 40 degrees, it is not easy to work. In the rainy season, landslides and cloudbursts from the hills also cause road collapses and overflowing bridges. Apart from this, there is also a danger of frequent breakdown of hills, damage to machines and the lives of laborers engaged in the work. BRO 65 RCC has started hotmix in 10 km road from Bundi to Chhilekh. Officials say that if the weather becomes more disruptive, then within two years the entire road will be widened and hotmixed.

The journey will be of few hours instead of four days.

The district has a triangular international border at Dharchula. One part of it is bordered by Nepal and the other with China border. SSB is deployed till Kalapani for the security of the Nepal border, while ITBP and army are guarding the China border. Border out posts have been made on the border to keep an eye on the enemy. Before the road was built, from logistics to other essential goods for the soldiers of the army were transported by horse mules. It takes four days to reach the border from Dharchula. Supply has become easier with the construction of the road. Due to the widening and hotmix of the road, the journey to the China border will be only a few hours. Along with the migration villages of Beas Valley Bundi, Garbyang, Napalchu, Gunji, Nabi, Ronkang, Kuti, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, etc. Kailash, Om Parvat as well as Indo-China trade will be facilitated.
