At EC event, social distancing norms goes for a toss, COVID positive person present too

In the time of COVID, holding public and political gatherings can be disastrous. Election Commission of India took the decision to hold Bihar elections amid a pandemic even after requests from various political parties ECI decided to go ahead. Sunil Arora during the announcement of dates for elections said we are well prepared to hold elections during a pandemic.

This claim of the EC chief has been exposed by one of the official events held by the State election commission in Patna’s SK’s Memorial Hall. A few days back, an advertisement was published by the Bihar election commission that people who can’t take part in election duties due to old age and medical ailments can attend a camp being organised at SK memorial hall on October 10 between 11 to 4.

According to the latest report, a COVID positive person was also present at the programme

People were asked to come with medical prescriptions and details. According to one of the person at the event, ‘there was huge mismanagement, people were not wearing masks. There was no social distancing. The officials were not clear about the process. First people submitted the form to a single place so that social distancing can be maintained and when officials arrived, they then asked everyone to take their form back and get a token. This resulted in the ruckus, people started climbing on each other.”

“Mismanagement is at its peak, older people and disabled people are called in such a large gathering when COVID number is at its peak. This shows the attitude of the government and officials.”
